How these numbers work
USAspending transaction-level net obligations, funded by Department of Defense, contract award types A/B/C/D. All 2,047 returned Product or Service Codes are assigned once to 20 editorial categories; exact code rules and every source record are archived. Categories reflect each action’s reported primary purpose. They can include purchases, components and support, not just new equipment. Negative deobligations are retained. Prime transactions only; subawards are not added. The grouped total agrees with the separate agency query within $0.04 of API aggregation rounding. Counters apply the historical FY2025 commitment pace to the selected period; they do not measure current purchases or payments. These totals do not reconcile to the Treasury National Defense outlay counter because the measure, period and coverage differ.
Running amounts apply a constant historical pace: the reported amount divided by every second in FY2025 · October 1, 2024–September 30, 2025, multiplied by elapsed time in the selected range. They illustrate the flow; they do not track actual transactions today. Week starts Monday and YTD starts January 1, in UTC. Dollar increments show motion, not dollar-level measurement accuracy.
“Reported period” restores the original source amounts. This pace model freezes at 2027-01-01 unless a newer official snapshot is imported. These program snapshots have their own reporting periods and coverage, which differ from the national Treasury budget-function counter.
