CelesTrak supplies orbital elements
We use the public Active group, not a complete census of every object in space. Category filters use name patterns and are illustrative groupings; operator and mission classifications can be incomplete.
Positions are calculated every second
SGP4 propagation estimates each satellite’s position from orbital elements. We plot records no more than 14 days old or 24 hours into the future. Old data and maneuvers can reduce accuracy. The 2D view shows the point on Earth below each satellite.
Catalog totals change when source data arrives
The total counts source records, not newly launched satellites. Source checks are cached centrally, up to once every two hours while the page is used. Failed checks retain the last saved observation and do not advance the verified time.
Last successful orbit check: Not available
Earth texture: NASA Blue Marble. Station and STS-1 photographs: NASA. Map motion respects reduced-motion preferences.Sources & dates

Positions are estimates. Source orbit time, last successful check and page changes have different meanings. SatNOGS and NASA links are research resources; this map uses CelesTrak orbital elements.
